Abstrak : Squalene is a triterpenoid subtance which can be oxidized to, especially squalane. The quantitative determination of squalane and squalene mixture simultaneously by chemical reaction is difficult because squalene is a relatively inert subtance. Because of that reasons, the quantitative analysis of squalane and squalene mixture simultaneously by gas chromatography (GC) was described. By GC, which temperature of injection port, FID 280 derajat C and coloumn (TC-1, equivalent to OV-1) is maintained at 240 derajat C, squalane can be separated from squalene with retention times 16.4 and 23.5 minutes respectively. Nitrogen is used as the carrier gas at flow rate 2,6 Kgf/cm2. With progesteron (retention time = 20,75) as internal standard, resolution of squalane-progesterone, squalene-progesterone and squalane-squalene are 2,45, 1,1 and 3,96 respectively are obtained. The detection limit of squalane is 25,08, 10 g, whereas is 32,48, 10 g. The of linearity test showed that in the range concentration of 50-2000 ppm (with 2 MIU l injection volume), either squalene or squalene has a linear correlation with detectors response. With above condition experiment, percent sgualene concentration in M, Ve, and Va samples obtained are (104,1 + 6,6) percent, (100,9 + 6,0 percent and (99,35 lebih kurang 3,5) percent, respectively. These recoveries comply with the requirements of concentration limit of active ingredients in general pharmaceutical preparations. The percentage concentration squalane in Ve sample is (0,58 + 0,05) percent, but squalane in Va and M samples are below detection limit concentration of this instrument. (Pengarang)
